Saga Univ.'s OTEC Power Generation: Saudi Arabia Plans to Introduce a Commercial Plant
[Brief translation]
It was learned on 19th that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had laid out a project to merge a new electric power plant based on OTEC technology of Saga University, Japan with their existing power grid. The government takes an interest in OTEC technology since it enables to desalinate seawater in the process of power generation. Due to the attention from Saudi Arabia, the biggest oil exporting country in the world and well-financed, the OTEC power generation has increased its possibility to spread worldwide. High ranking officials from Saudi Arabia plans to go visit Saga University for concrete talks on the issue around the time the Third World Water Forum is convened in this coming March in Kyoto, Japan.
