[Brief translation]
Saga Water Forum was held here yesterday. This Forum has the characterization of an international conference leading to the coming 3rd World
Water Forum to be convened in Kyoto city from March 22, 2003. The delegates from the island nations in the South Pacific Ocean voiced their
distress caused by global warming and expressed their wish to take advantage of pollution-free and renewable energy obtainable by Saga
University's OTEC technology. Governmental representatives from 8 countries and regions have worked out at a round-table conference the Saga
Declaration calling for action plans for sustainable progress. Building of power plants based on OTEC technology was named one of the
priority concerns. The Declaration further states that the energy source required for the 10% of total power generation should be switched
from fossil fuel to pollution-free one by the year 2013, so that further environmental deterioration by global warming could be saved.
Tomorrow each delegation will put its signature on the Declaration.
