The Indian experimental plant of 1,000 kW OTEC power generation will start its operation sometime this month. This pilot plant uses principle called Uehara cycle, one of OTEC technology developed by Saga University. Experiments will include not only power generation but also desalination of seawater once utilized for power generation. It is theoretically capable to product daily pure fresh water equivalent to 16,000 bottles in terms of a 500 cc plastic bottle.
