Utilization of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is under consideration
- KNPC (Kuwait National Petroleum Company) from Kuwait visited to Saga Prefecture -

Eng. Asa'ad Ahmad E. Al-Saad, Deputy Managing Director of KNPC, visited to Saga Prefecture and made a courtesy call on Mr. Yoshiyuki Kawakami, Vice-Governor, Saga Prefectural Government, on June19.
The purpose of the visit was to inspect Institute of Ocean Energy, Saga University (IOES, Imari-shi), where has engaged in OTEC. According to Eng. Asa'ad Ahmad E. Al-Saad, KNPC is considering applying the OTEC technology to generate electricity and desalinate seawater using waste heat discharged from refineries.
Eng. Asa'ad Ahmad E. Al-Saad said, "This technology is environment-friendly, so I expect to be able to use the technology in Kuwait." In response, Mr. Kawakami said, "I expect further technical cooperation between two countries with this opportunity."
