[Brief translation]
Chiba Works of Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. reuses low-temperature waste heat, which Sodegaura Oil Refinery of Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. has not used, for boilers for power generation. Furthermore, the works generate electric power for 4,000 kW utilizing ammonia as a working fluid to drive turbines by receiving low temperature heat in the process. This operation has been implemented since October 2005, and energy saving effect for its first year will reach to approximately 11,000 kl equivalent to crude oil.
Mr. MATSUDA of Chiyoda Corporation said, "If this technology is developed to whole Chiba complexes, 640,000 kl of energy-saving, which is equivalent to domestic crude oil consumption for one day in terms of crude oil per year, becomes possible."
As global attention toward this technology is high, companies from Middle East and India have visited Sodegaura Oil Refinery of Fuji Oil Co., Ltd., and inquiries from Taiwanese and Polish Governments have been received. Mr. MATSUDA said, "As there is great energy waste in complexes in East Europe and China, this technology is more effective in saving energy than Japan.", with expectation of overseas development.
