Award of Director-General, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry - Chiyoda Corporation, Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. -
[Brief translation]
"Multiple-site low-grade exergy recovery system" has realized significant energy saving, utilizing waste heat of less than 150 degrees Celsius between the sites of Fuji Oil Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. within the petroleum industrial complex area in Chiba Prefecture. This system was developed by Chiyoda Corporation, which conducted a heat utilization analysis, with the support of The New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), Japan’s largest governmental R&D management organization. Such joint project of energy saving across business boundaries is a rare case in Japan.
The system is composed of a "multiple-site energy sharing system", an "integrated energy monitoring system" and a "low grade heat conversion system". The "multiple-site energy sharing system" improved the operation efficiency by applying the heat exchangers with capacity twice as high as the conventional ones, which resulted in 4,900 KL of crude oil equivalent energy saving per year.
Mr. Kazuo MATSUDA of Chiyoda Corporation announced the achievement of the joint project, commenting, "the system has a significant impact in terms of saving energy among the sites of different companies since the energy saving in a single site is already ultra efficient." The energy saving among the multiple sites of the different companies has been lagged behind comparing with the saving within the single site.
The implementation of the system is now under investigation in other major industrial complexes such as Mizushima (Okayama Prefecture) and Kashima (Ibaragi Prefecture) where Chiyoda is conducting the heat utilization analysis.
