[Brief translation]
Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning introduction of the system for power generation and water production by utilizing Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion technology, which Xenesys (Tokyo, Japan) has developed, with this Japanese venture on April 30.
Xenesys is aiming at developing this Japanese energy-saving technology in Gulf countries, where have been facing environmental issues.
This technology can generate electricity and produce water simultaneously using waste heat from refineries as its energy source, and is expected the effect of energy saving and reduction of CO2 emissions. Contract amount is to be approximately 2,000,000,000 yen and conclusion of a formal contract is expected around summer.
With recent economic development, discharged industrial warm water has been rapidly increased. This has brought serious environment issues such as raise of seawater temperature up to 38 degree Celsius in Kuwait Bay.
