●Secondary Usage of DOW (Deep Ocean Water)

We can envisage a variety of new industrial avenues with DOW pumped up for OTEC power generation. The following items indicate a few of the potential areas that DOW can create:

・Production of fresh water (by spray flash desalination method)
・Production of mineral water (vs. those currently dominating the market)
・Production of ice (Ice making technology does not require advance desalination of seawater, since it uses seawater as raw material directly)
・Production of aquiculture (farming of fish, shells, and algae)
・Extraction of lithium (a rare metal)
・Production of hydrogen (vast potential in the very near future)
・For air-conditioning (cooling) systems (Untreated DOW is a natural cooling medium)
・For production of DOW-related byproducts, such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, etc.

●Utilization of DOW for Fertile Fishing Grounds

Sprinkling DOW, which is nutrient rich, on the sea surface will cultivate fishing grounds.
