Our project was selected for the Fiscal Year 2018 Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program.

The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) called for project proposals from researchers in Japan for Environment/Energy, Bioresources, and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation for SATREPS projects. A total of 99 proposals were received and 7 new projects were selected for FY2018.


“The Project for Development of Advanced Hybrid Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) Technology for Low Carbon Society and Sustainable Energy System: First Experimental OTEC Plant of Malaysia” was selected for the “Environment and Energy Research Contributing to Advanced Energy Systems for Low Carbon Society” section.


The Institute of Ocean Energy, Saga University will be the representative research institution, and the Company will be taking part as domestic organization along with The University of Tokyo Graduate school of Frontier Science, Department of Ocean Technology, Policy and Environment, and National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST).


SATREPS is a science and technology diplomacy initiative that promotes international joint research using advanced science and technology from Japan. The program is collaboration between JST and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), supported by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). SATREPS will actively correspond to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contribute to the international community.
